The tornadoes in Missouri have claimed 118 lives so far - and more bad weather is predicted. You might think this would be a good time for the slime-basted rethugs in Congress to show a little humanity. But you would be dead wrong.
Unfortunately, this is not a proper disaster like, say, a billionaire having the duck down go lumpy in his $1,000 throw pillow or, God forbid, being asked to pay taxes. Therefore Eric Cantor is telling us Congress will not pay a penny in disaster relief for Missouri until matching federal funds are cut elsewhere. Maybe a few more old folks could be frozen this winter or some more teachers fired to make up for the expense of saving lives? Whatever...
Quick question: who the f*ck does this depraved a**hole think he's speaking for? Sure ain't any kind of America I've ever heard of.

Haley Barbour 2012: The GOP Nightmare

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour or someone similar...
Unsurprisingly, GOP movers and shakers are peeing their panties at the thought of Haley Barbour running for president in 2012. The Mississippi governor and unreconstructed white supremacist is dead-set on running, his party is "begging" him not to... As a liberal, I have one thing to say: "Go Haley Barbour!"

Random (Moving) Picture Of The Day
Still fascinated by crazy-ass Phil and his worst stump speech ever. My favorite detail is his choice of attire: basically a Reservoir Dogs costume. Grrr!

America's Shame

Gloom from the NYT:
Facing eviction from her Tennessee apartment after several months of unpaid rent, Alexandra Jarrin packed up whatever she could fit into her two-door coupe recently and drove out of town.
Ms. Jarrin, 49, wound up at a motel here, putting down $260 she had managed to scrape together from friends and from selling her living room set, enough for a weeklong stay. It was essentially all the money she had left after her unemployment benefits expired in March. Now she is facing a previously unimaginable situation for a woman who, not that long ago, had a corporate job near New York City and was enrolled in a graduate business school, whose sticker is still emblazoned on her back windshield.
“Barring a miracle, I’m going to be in my car,” she said.
You'd have to be a f*cking socio-political Jedi master to figure out how the GOP is still existing, let alone doing well in the polls, when you consider how many times over this story could be repeated with different names in different locations. While smug pr*cks like Boehner and Cantor whine for Wall Street and push deficit suicide by extending the Bush tax cuts, everyday middle-class folks all across America are becoming de facto hobos. WTF???
How did this Ayn Rand wet dream become reality? How can a party that exists only to screw the majority while acting as fluffers for the wealthy still get to call the shots? Even allowing for the Obama admin's self-defeating centrism and their infinite capacity for snubbing their own base and ceding power to the GOP, it's a f*cking mystery.
There are around about 1.4 million Americans who've been unemployed longer than 99 weeks. Now, thanks to anti-middle class Republicans and flaccid Democrats, they're about to be cut off and lose everything. But they aren't living in a vacuum. If you're not a '99er', chances are you'll have one or two in the family or you'll know someone who is. So why the f*ck are we letting this happen? Why do we vote for the bastards who'd sooner the unemployed crawl off and starve?
I am no socio-political Jedi master so I remain baffled.

The Real Reason?
Greg Palast has made something of a career tracking the GOP's efforts to suppress minority votes over the years. He's positing the Arizona bill as a GOP tactic to scare pro-Democrat Hispanic voters away from the polls.
Could the GOP be this smart? Either way, the timing is perfect and the effect will be the same in November unless the "Papers Please" bill is struck down.

Straight From The Horse's Mouth
During one of his trademark bouts of accidental candor Michael Steele admitted that black people "really don't have a reason" to vote for the GOP.
True of course. But then would anyone aside from Wall Street bankers or health insurance CEOs have any reason to support those pr*cks anyway? In the words of Michael Jackson, "It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White".
So let's just ponder the implied surrealism of Steele leading a party that he admits he has no reason to vote for. Far out...

America's First Vampire President?

Jonathon "The Impaler" Sharkey claims to be a fully-fledged vampire who hasn't "dated a girl older than 19 since 2006." The self-admitted jailbait-chasing grandpa from Florida also plans to run for President of the United States in 2012. He recently switched his party affiliation from Independent to Republican so he can run as a GOP candidate.
I guess they're really working on the old big tent thing down in Florida. Vampire Republicans? Says A.J. Matthews, Republican State Committeeman:
"He does believe in Republican values. Is he going to make a big splash with his current identification of being a vampire? That's up to the voters to decide."
Cue undead jokes at Dick Cheney's expense..? Nah. Too easy.

Sound Logic on Healthcare Reform's Uncivil War
I can't link to anything because I've clean forgot who said it, but I was watching Countdown last night and a female Dem Senator came out with an astoundingly logical, cut-the-crap argument about the GOP war on healthcare reform. Words to the effect of:
"They know it will work. That's why they fight it. If they thought it would fail, they'd let it pass because they'd know it would damage the Democrats."
Tell me if I'm wrong, but ain't that the G-damned truth?
The GOP operate like a third world domestic terror group fighting a civil war. They might wave flags and pretend it's all for the people, but they don't give a rat's behind about anything but their own agenda. Everything is expendable, the Republicans must win at all costs... even if the whole country is reduced to a metaphorical pile of burnt ash in the process.
Let's use the mystery senator's logic: a bill the GOP may secretly admit will help the people (a bit) and go some way to redressing the imbalances and iniquities of our corporate dictatorship would be just another target in their 'ends justify the means' civil war. Screw you guys, America, we're in it to win it!
By the same token, if they really thought 'Obamacare' promises the great disaster they pretend, they'd be more than happy to let it pass. They'd gladly throw the entire country under the bus happy in the knowledge that Obama had scored a fatal own goal.
If you don't hate these people, you must have hit the snooze button. Or had Dick Armey slip a rufie in your 'patriot tea'.

Obama Win

Today's 'Presidential Question Time' in Baltimore was something to behold. That Obama would volunteer to stand up and take questions from 140 GOP'ers on their own field is pretty f*cking amazing.
Better yet, thanks to his razor brain and Rain Man-like memory for minutia, he aced it. Now the wingnuts must stop cracking dumb about teleprompters. Obama showed he can run intellectual circles round those mental midgets right off the cuff. Man, he did so well he 's pobably looking totally Swedish to Chris Matthews by now.
More good news from a very weird source: According to Bill O'Reilly's latest online poll 94% of his viewers give Obama an 'A' grade for his first year in office.

How can 364,905 Bill O'Reilly viewers be wrong? Well... you know what I mean.

GOP Civil War
Says Andrew Sullivan:
"Senator Lindsey Graham is censured by the Charleston GOP for supporting cap-and-trade legislation to tackle climate change, for supporting the bailout of the banks, and for backing McCain's immigration bill. The base of the GOP's position seems to be that climate change is a hoax, the banks should have been allowed to fail, and illegal immigrants should be rounded up and sent home. This is not a serious platform for a party interested in actually governing."
Yet, inexplicably, Gallup polling from yesterday shows voters favoring a generic Republican over a generic Democrat by 4% with 22% of independents backing the GOP. How the f*** does this happen?

Eat S*** GOP!

MC Steele may be proud of the new GOP Web site but, a full 15 years before, Ted Kennedy was further up the tech curve. Kennedy launched the first official web site for a Senate office in 1994. Sure, it looks like crap now. But not that much worse than GOP.com.

GOP Web Site Goes For Laughs

Even after her embarrassing "what papers do you read?" Couric debacle, Sarah Palin appears proudly and defiantly to have learned nothing.
The new GOP Web site says a lot more about the true nature of the Republican party than they would have liked. Marc Ambinder presents "Top Ten Reasons Why The GOP Website Relaunch Is Fizzlin'":
- In a section devoted to "future leaders," there were none.
- In the subsequent rush to get up a "future leaders" page, they choose "you."
- The last GOP accomplishment cited on the accomplishment page was from 2004.
- The what's up page -- hip! starts with this sentence: "the internet has been around for a while now"
- Administrator passwords were accidentally posted.
- When the RNC hosted a kick-off conference call, the website was down.
- The website cites Jackie Robinson as a GOP hero. Robinson wasn't a GOPer, and he criticized the GOP on race. Robinson left the party because of its views on race. He had been, as a reader points out, a Republican for many years.
- The first question on the conference call was from an Hispanic Republican who asked why the GOP site didn't have a Spanish-language page and noted that the White House had one.
- Bragging about web redesigns is so 2004.
- It's not timed with the start of any major advocacy campaign -- or political campaign. And it portrays itself as something it's not: diverse and ready to embrace new ideas. That may be what the party leadership aspires to, but, at least when it comes to diversity, a few pictures of Hispanics and African Americans doesn't make up for ... well, the history of the party.
Apart from all that, we're cool.
As a side note, am I alone in finding the Republican penchant for trumpeting century-old achievements intellectually disingenuous? True, the Republicans were the black folks' party back in the 19th century, hence the African-American flavor of the GOP's "Republican Heroes" page. But at a time when the southern 'Dixiecrats' were effectively the political arm of the KKK, this would be like the German Communist party boasting they had more Jewish supporters than the Nazis.
Are we really dumb enough to assume the RNC and the DNC represent the same ideas they did 100, 50 or even 20 years ago? Apparently, Michael Steele hopes we are.
