America & Israel's Dysfunctional Love Affair

Why must any mainstream news story about America's relationship with Israel automatically be couched in hysterical language more befitting a supermarket tabloid? Is this some kind of AP rule?

I was just reading an AP article that talked about "the Obama administration's fierce denunciation of Israel last week" and thought... Woah! What's that all about? Translation:

Later Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got a telephone call from a "frustrated'' Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who reiterated America's displeasure over the surprise announcement of a 1,600 home development project in East Jerusalem, a move that upended Mr. Biden's visit.

'Fierce denunciation'? Hardly.

Then the AP goes further and says the 'fierce denunciation of Israel' "ignited a firestorm in Congress". Really? Only if you count Joe Lieberman asking that the Obama admin and Israel "lower voices".

Not much word though from Lieberman - or hyperbolic hysteria from the AP - when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's brother-in-law called Obama 'anti-Semitic.'

Would it be similarly 'anti-Semitic' of me to suggest that Lieberman f*cks off and represents a district in Israel instead of Connecticut? His crush on Israel clearly overshadows whatever residual affection he might still have for his own president/party/country.
