Debunking The Theory of Mutual Stupidity

Rabble Lama Ding Dong

C***servatives seem to inhabit an abstract world of lies and insane exaggerations. It's a place where truth is that which is yelled loudest - or that which is typed with caps lock firmly engaged.

One of the most enduring "true things" the tighty righties never tire of saying is that comparing Obama to Hitler is somehow excusable because the Democrat mainstream spent 8 years doing the same thing to Bush. But this childish 'they did it too' excuse cannot actually hold water because it is blatantly and demonstrably untrue.

There's a handy "Gallery of Bush = Hitler Allusions" which seems pretty dedicated to providing as many Bush = Hitler comparisons as possible in order to make Democrats look bad. So what are the best examples they can come up with for Democrat politicians invoking this lunk-headed tactic? Err... John Valder (Australian Liberal Party Leader), Fidel Castro, The Government of North Korea, and Ayatollah Khamenei. Wow. There's the mainstream voice of the American Democratic party right there.

So what of the current c***servative crop of Obama = Hitler allusions? Do they all emanate from fringe nutjobs and foreign lefties too? Not exactly:

"We can't be lulled into complacency, you have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."'
Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA)

"Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view."
Joyce E. Thoman, President, Republican Women of Anne Arundel County

Gohmert: People are always willing to give up their liberty to get economic stability.
Interviewer: Look at Hitler.
Gohmert: Absolutely. Boy that’s the best example, maybe the best example.

Louie Gohmert (R-TX) speaking on The Alex Jones Show

"Adolf Hitler, like Barack Obama, also ruled by dictate."
Rush Limbaugh

"This is how Hitler started out. First, Obama took over the auto industry, then the banking industry. We don’t need him to take over the health-care industry."
Phil Duckham, Jackson County Commissioner, Michigan

"I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may—may not, I hope not—but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.… That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it’s exactly what the Soviet Union did."
Paul Broun (R-GA)

"Yet many today seem to assume that if things are bad, "change" will make them better. Specifics don't interest them nearly as much as inspiring rhetoric and a confident style. But many 20th-century leaders with inspiring rhetoric and great self-confidence led their followers or their countries into utter disasters. These ranged from Jim Jones who led hundreds to their deaths in Jonestown to Hitler and Mao who led millions to their deaths."
Thomas Sowell

"Who else called for change in this fashion? Each and every one called upon youth movements. Karl Marx. Joseph Stalin. Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini. Fidel Castro. And you want Obama for President? Are you nuts!"
McCain campaign poster, Pompano Beach, Florida

"Boniek at one point equated Obama with Hitler, Mao and Stalin, saying each loved his country in his fashion, with disasterous consequences. "He's ruining the country I love," Boniek said of Obama. "He doesn't know what freedom is.""
Joel Boniek (R-CA)

"Part of what we're trying to do in Saving Freedom is just show that where we are, we're about where Germany was before World War II."
Jim DeMint (R-SC)

"This is what Hitler did with the SS, he had his own people, he had the Brownshirts."
Glenn Beck
