Not Free at Last, Not Free at Last... Thank God Almighty, He's Not Free at Last!

As the great American empire declines into something approximating Czarist Russia a few years prior to revolution, there's not much to smile about. But every so often, a small smiley emoticon of joy floats into the news radar... like, say, Tom DeLay getting his crooked ass thrown in jail.

DeLay was sentenced to 3 years + 10 years probation today in Austin. Best part? He gets to spend time in regular old county jail while his bond gets processed. Aah! Savor the image... My hat's off to the judge:

“Before there were Republicans and Democrats, there was America, and what America is about is the rule of law,” the judge said just before pronouncing the sentence.

Yup. At one time the crooks conducted their business on the sly, in secret and still pretended to be gentlemen. Now rats like DeLay swim in the sewers unashamed and unrepentant. Said DeLay:

“I cannot be remorseful for something I didn’t think I did".

The saddest thing is that he probably meant every word of that.
