Government-Run Healthcare Passed. In 1798

Given all the right wing posturing about 'government-run healthcare' and individual mandates being unconstitutional, it's ironic to learn that the first government-run healthcare bill (i.e., socialized medicine) was passed by Congress back in 1798 and signed into law by John Adams. As Rick Ungar at Forbes points out:

Keep in mind that the 5th Congress did not really need to struggle over the intentions of the drafters of the Constitutions in creating this Act as many of its members were the drafters of the Constitution.

So go ahead, wingnuts, time to start railing against the founding fathers and their dangerous socialist tendencies.
