At issue is the the process Senate Democratic leaders have indicated they will use to finish healthcare reform legislation. That process, called budget reconciliation, would allow senators to pass final changes to the original health bill they'd passed in December using only a simple majority of votes, instead of the 60 normally needed to end a filibuster. As them Dems start trying to resuscitate the health reform bill, it's kinda surreal to read the political blogs take on the situation. It's almost as if trying to pass a bill on a "simple majority of votes" is some kind of devious plot to undermine democracy, screw the Republicans and disenfranchise the imaginary majority of the American people who don't want reform.
Does anyone even remember how democracy's supposed to work any more?
