Unlike most highly (over)paid Republican pols, I took a moment to read Obama's Healthcare reform proposal. Try it yourself. Sounds good on paper... maybe us lower-income folks will get s crack at affordable insurance after all and not be expected to just crawl off and die under a hedge if we become too sick to work.
Only things that trouble me:
1. Why should the government have to step in and help lessen the hit for lower-income people via tax cuts? I guess it would seem fair to conservatives that tax payers subsidize the insurance mafia and their rape-standard premiums but... why?
2. Why are we stuck with a system that obligates employers to provide health insurance anyway? This is one of the biggest reasons premiums get to be so ridiculously inflated. If the health insurance system returned to the pre WWII model - the individual not employer mandate - the insurers would be billing people not companies and would be forced to tone down their opportunistic greed.
3. Why do we need insurance companies anyway? Let the hospitals and drug companies offer their own plans and cut out the parasites skimming money in the middle for doing nothing.
Oh well. I can but dream.
