America Is Stupid. Official.

America's fourth most admired man? May God have mercy on our souls...

It's long been suspected but finally there's proof that Americans really are stupid. Gallup has just published results for a poll that asked respondents to name their most admired people. Obama made number one by a long chalk. But George W. Bush number two? For f*cking what?

Then it gets even weirder with Glenn Beck trailing Nelson Mandela by only one point for fourth place. In fact, to Americans, Glenn Beck is more admired than the Pope, Billy Graham and Bill Gates.

Really, WTF? Even if you liked Glenn Beck, what the hell has he accomplished? What is there to admire about a TV talking head? Does the ability to throw on a suit and read cue cards now count as an indicator of greatness? Sure, I'm not big on Catholicism, but at least the Pope accomplished something by scrambling his way to the top spot of the Vatican Mafia. Billy Graham and Bill Gates were no slouches either when it came to self-advancement but... Glenn f*cking Beck???

We are even stupider than I feared. Thanks Gallup.

  1. Wow. What about John Glenn or John Young? Chuck Yeager? How about guys like Joe Biden who have dedicated their lives to public service. Jimmy Carter? The doctor down the street who treats everyone who comes through his door, money or no money.
    Americans are ignorant media sluts.

  2. You gotta give me your doc's #!

Seriously, if I was less lazy, I'd start a charity to supply guys like that with X-ray machines and scanners. Buy in drugs from Mexico and we'd be on our way to having a healthcare system. I've also wondered for a long time if it would be legally possible for doctors to start there own payment plans. Say, families pay $50 a month to cover future treatment. Could you ask him if that would be viable?

  3. Herb, Yes, there are doctors who do that sort of thing. Flat rate per month. . . unfortunately, that doesn't get you lab access, nuclear medicine or hospitalization.
What would really be nice is if hospitals and docs would only charge cash customers the same amount they charge insurance companies.my dentist gives 10% off retail to cash customers. I happen to know that she gives up to 50% off to insurance companies depending upon the company and the plan.
    Ditto doctors and hospitals.

  4. I read that the average charge for a CAT scan in Europe is around $250 cash if you aren't eligible for free, universal healthcare. Here it's 1,800. On our recent ER visit, they jacked that up even more by doing a second CAT scan without mentioning it. Even after we told the doc we had no insurance, they just threw on an extra $1,800 like it was no big deal. The rest of our bill was charges like $850 for a doctor consultation (5 minutes to say "the scans didn't show anything, you're OK.") I just don't get how hospitals can charge like that from a moral standpoint. There's no way I'd pay that shit even if we had the money. So we get our credit fucked and the hospital just goes to the feds for the money instead. It's totally sick. Mafia loansharks have more ethics and restraint.
