Operation Balls Of Fire

ABC News has obtained photos of the weaponized underpants worn by failed Detroit bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. The bomb is a six-inch long container of a high-explosive chemical PETN, less than a half cup in volume, weighing about 80 grams. Apparently, only 50 grams of PETN was enough to blow a hole in a plane in a government test. Says ABC:

"That was the amount in the bomb carried by the so-called shoe bomber Richard Reid over Christmas 2001. The underpants bomb would have been one and a half times as powerful."

I would never have dreamed I'd live to hear the term 'underpants bomb' on the news. Nor that we'd have to fear what African guys were packing in their skivvies. It's like some kind of racist's Freudian nightmare come to life.

  1. I think I remember reading that a suicide bomber recently used a "rectal bomb". At first I thought it was the name of Taco Bell's most recent burrito concoction...but apparently the explosion was much less violent and killed less people than it's fast food cousin.
