You'd think a bill that would prevent the government from hiring contractors who allow rape in the workplace would pass pretty unanimously. You'd be wrong.
When Al Franken (D-Minn.) offered an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill that would withhold defense contracts to companies who prevent victims from filing lawsuits against sexual assault and harassment, it got the support of only 10 Republican senators.
Republicans point out that the amendment was opposed by a host of business interests, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and that the bill was a "misleading, partisan attack [which] makes clear yet again just how out of touch Democrats in Washington are with the serious issues facing average Americans."
So Republicans are no longer content with working for the financial rape of working and middle class Americans. They now support actual rape.
For the record, here are the good Christian types who sorely deserve some awkward questions from constituents. Maybe along the lines of "if rape can be overlooked to protect corporate profits, is there a lower limit? Would you, say, overlook a gang rape for $50?"
