Dear Ron: It's Not Me, It's You...

The Ron Paul blimp en route to do battle with the Rush Limbaugh zeppelin

On the basis that 'an enemy of my enemy is my friend', I used to have a sneaking respect for Ron Paul during the Bush II years. I wouldn't deny Paul has a few insane opinions regarding social security, closed borders and returning to the Gold Standard (hey, let's bring back flared pants and AM radio too). But he was undeniably right-on about Iraq, torture and Bush/Cheney's contempt for civil liberties. But now?

The whole Ron Paul thing has gone from breath of fresh air to an embarrassing fart of misanthropic lunacy. I can't believe I ever respected the guy. Here's an example of current opinion from The Daily Paul:

"I realize I'm too late this time around, but I wanted to get an early start to nominate someone for the next time the Nobel Peace Prize is given out. I nominate Charles Manson... There are similarities between the two men. Both have talked as if they are the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, and both believed they could use racial tensions to empower themselves. Another similarity is that, as far as I can tell, neither of them has actually killed anyone. Yes, you read that right. However, both have instructed others to kill people, and those "others" did."

I can't believe Paul's letting his chimp-brained thugs post this sub-Beck crap on his home site. Really, Ron, my infatuation was always a bit tinged with doubt... But it's long gone now. To compare Obama to Charles Manson almost dignifies those Obama/Hitler comparisons.
