Let's Cut Their Pay. Why Not? We Can't Kill Them.

Arizona Dem Ann Kirkpatrick is suggesting that Congress gives itself a pay cut. I can't really see that happening but it's a pleasing idea and understandably popular:

A recent survey by the Rasmussen Reports found that 75% of Americans think members of Congress should cut their pay until the budget is balanced. And nearly one in eight think members of Congress should not be able to get a raise unless taxpayers vote for it.

Fine. But maybe we should quit giving them salaries altogether. Maybe a flat rate fee for each bill passed would work better? Imagine how fast bills would start sailing through that place... Healthcare Bill? "F*ck it, let's bang that puppy out before lunch. You with me Boehner?" A taxpayer can dream...

  1. When we no longer pay public servants then only those who don't need to be paid will be able to afford to be public servants. We have lots of things to fix in government but pay for service, even elected service, is not one of them.
