...unless you own a bank.
The LA Times runs a story on California welfare recipients blowing government checks gambling at casinos. So an angry Schwarzenegger issues an executive order requiring them to promise they will use "cash benefits only to meet basic subsistence needs".
Then, inevitably, the haters who would begrudge almost anything to anybody fill up the LA Times comments section with words like "disgraceful", "shocking" and random demands that "welfare be abolished". Fair enough you might say. Fair enough to resent freeloaders taking jaunts to Tahoe to play penny slots on the tax payer. But what about those better dressed freeloaders who gyp the taxpayer out of billions instead? Outrage? Anyone..? Maybe at the Huffington Post...
According to a report by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, employees at nine banks that received money from the TARP bailout received a combined total of $32.6 billion in bonuses. As the Wall Street Journal reported, the bonuses included, "more than $1 million apiece to nearly 5,000 employees -- despite huge losses that plunged the U.S. into economic turmoil."
Jeez. How could even the most petty pr*cks on the RW get so fired up about welfare abuse and not even twitch an eyelid as the parasites running our financial institutions keep burning through our tax dollars like a wild fire in a leisure suit factory? In a common sense world, we might just shut the f*ck up about the shaving nick of regular welfare until we've stemmed the hemorrhage of corporate welfare. But we don't. Maybe we've quite literally been robbed blind. Or dumb.
