America: Love It or Leave It

Rand Paul may call himself a strict constitutionalist.

I'd go less fancy and call him a plain ol' lying a**hole.

Even in the face of much well-deserved disapprobation (my word for today), Paul clings to his horrible position on racial discrimination almost as if he's saying "Hey, banning black folks from your business is technically constitutional. What can you do?"

But what about the rest of the Constitution? What about, say, that very clear and fundamental rule that anyone born in the US is a citizen? There's not much argument about what the 14th Amendment says. Much clearer than arguing about what the constitution meant to say by stretching the interstate commerce clause to improbable extremes.

The 14th Amendment must be as sacred to Paul as the rest of the constitution? Right? Nope. Paul thinks the U.S. should abandon its policy of granting citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants -- even if they're born on U.S. soil.

Paul is obviously not the constitutional purist he plays on TV. He's not some kind of esoteric philosopher arguing purity over pragmatism. He's just like every other Republican: a fake patriot a**hole who holds up the constitution as sacred only when it backs up his own 'ideas'.

Republicans loving the constitution are like guys who love their wives. Up until they talk back... then they shoot them.

  1. Phoney patriots is right, but they only have to talk patriotic to convince the ignorant proles who are even dumber and more fake than they are.
