So what's new? How about new scientific proof that conservatives are clueless 'tards totally bereft of humor, irony and subjectivity? A-ha! I welcome myself back.
A new study from The Ohio State University demonstrates that lots of conservatives don't understand that The Colbert Report is supposed to be funny and that Colbert is not really a conservative. Says the report:
Using data from an experiment (N = 332), we found that individual-level political ideology significantly predicted perceptions of Colbert's political ideology. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said.
So, in other words, conservatives tend to like what Colbert says because it jibes with their own ridiculous views. And they don't think he's joking because his satire flies straight over their heads.
Colbert recently did a bit about Florida Representative Bill Posey sponsoring a bill that "would require future presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificate".
So, in the interests of satire, Colbert asked Posey about "whisperings that he was a human-alligator hybrid".
Posey responded in alarmingly convincing deadpan that "I expected there would be some civil debate about it, but it wasn't civil...There is no reason to say that I'm the illegitimate grandson of an alligator."
Could it be that Posey is as dumb as the people who vote for him? Or is he just out-irony-ing even Stephen Colbert and all us smug types who think 50 or so IQ points and the ability to parse fantasy and reality are what separate liberals from conservatives?
In America today this probably means nothing. The manufacture of reality is, after all, our only growth industry.

HA! Good to have you back.
ReplyDeleteThat's some funny shit. . . oh, you were serious?!
Man, I get so confused sometimes.
