Race Card Wild

As Tweets The Nation's Melissa Harris Lacewell on "Harry-Reid-says-the-word-negro gate".

Harry Reid is quoted as saying in 2008 that "America was "“ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama – a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.’"

So the wingnuts are outraged because Harry Reid is now exposed as a big ol' racist. Please. Spare us the self-serving fake outrage.

Obama accepted Reid's apology for his "poor choice of words", Al Sharpton's good, and who would be surprised by a 70-year-old from Nevada using the word 'negro' in private anyway? Everyone has older relatives who still drop the word like it's 1950-something. Doesn't make you a Grand Wizard. More usually just a grandparent.

Yup, bad choice of words. But racism? If it is, I'd prefer not to take the advice of Buchanan, Limbaugh, Beck or any of the other authentically racist pond scum who've done nothing but pout and whine about 'taking our country back' ever since said country elected a black president. Listening to these idiots trying to play the race card is like attending a feminism seminar co-chaired by Bill O'Reilly and Hugh Heffner.
