So Our Lady of Mount Carmel church in Roseto, PA, throws a carnival in which one of the distractions is a kill Obama target shooting game. Obviously, quite a few folks took offense. But an equal number of wingnuts came out with the usual "liberals are so thin-skinned" and "they did worse to Bush" retorts. I have one simple point to make that seems to have been overlooked by both sides: But this is a f*cking church.

Facing eviction from her Tennessee apartment after several months of unpaid rent, Alexandra Jarrin packed up whatever she could fit into her two-door coupe recently and drove out of town.

Ms. Jarrin, 49, wound up at a motel here, putting down $260 she had managed to scrape together from friends and from selling her living room set, enough for a weeklong stay. It was essentially all the money she had left after her unemployment benefits expired in March. Now she is facing a previously unimaginable situation for a woman who, not that long ago, had a corporate job near New York City and was enrolled in a graduate business school, whose sticker is still emblazoned on her back windshield.

“Barring a miracle, I’m going to be in my car,” she said.

You'd have to be a f*cking socio-political Jedi master to figure out how the GOP is still existing, let alone doing well in the polls, when you consider how many times over this story could be repeated with different names in different locations. There are around about 1.4 million Americans who've been unemployed longer than 99 weeks. Now, thanks to anti-middle class Republicans and flaccid Democrats, they're about to be cut off and lose everything. But they aren't living in a vacuum. If you're not a '99er', chances are you'll have one or two in the family or you'll know someone who is. So why the f*ck are we letting this happen? Why do we vote for the bastards who'd sooner the unemployed crawl off and starve?

I am no socio-political Jedi master so I remain baffled.

Quittin' Jesus For Jesus

Author Anne Rice quit being a Christian this week. Rice was famous for her vampire-themed books and being a big Jesus ol' fan. But not anymore:

Much as I respect her view, she does seem to be throwing an entire religion under the bus just to make a point. Christianity has nothing to do with American evangelical thuggery - as little as it does with Catholics raping kids. So much as I'd understand she can't sit comfortably with c*nts any more, she is doing a massive disservice to people who actually are Christians.

If Christians are just going to quit and not stand up to the fake Christians perverting their own religion, who will? Doesn't this feel as if the c*nts have won?

Minority-Free Tea

Gay teabaggers (remember when there was no other kind?) in lieu of racial minorities at the Tea Party Diversity rally.

Saturday's "Uni-Tea" event in Philly was supposed to show off the racial plurality and non-white supremacism of the Tea Party. Shockingly, TPM reports that the event failed in its intent. Not so much a 1970s Coke ad... more a bunch of sweaty white folks pretending not to be racist in a park. Said TPM:

It was billed as the most diverse tea party rally ever. For three hours Saturday afternoon, we waited for the diversity to show up... If you're the kind of tea partier who'd like to see that abounding not-racism result in some actual demographic diversity in the movement, the Uni-Tea rally appeared to be a borderline disaster.

Not only did black folks and Hispanics stay away in droves, not many people of any kind turned up. The 'baggers blamed "a traffic jam on I-95 for keeping people away". Err... if you say so.
